I had the privilege of participating in the OD Network 2026 Annual Conference (https://lnkd.in/gArbDfDn) on the “OD in Business” panel. I’m grateful to say the conversation was a tremendous success. Thank you to the nearly 200 attendees for the session!
The discussion focused on a question I care deeply about: What difference does Organization Development actually make to a business? For me, that means moving beyond activity and intention and asking what changes in the work itself. Are decisions better? Are recurring problems reduced? Are systems easier to use? Is there less rework, less chasing, less friction, and more reliable performance?
That perspective connects closely to the ideas behind Efficient by Design: when capable people repeatedly struggle with the same issue, the answer is not always more training, motivation, or accountability. Sometimes the better place to look is the system surrounding the decision.
A sincere thank-you to the Organization Development Network for creating the space for this conversation, to Mike Cardus for guiding the panel, and to my fellow panelists Ed Essey, Dr. Kristin Morris, and Dr. Milpha Blamo for such thoughtful perspectives and discussion. And most importantly, thank you to everyone who attended, asked questions, shared experiences, and added to the conversation. The audience engagement made the session far more valuable than any prepared remarks could have.
I left the discussion even more convinced that OD creates its greatest value when it helps organizations understand why work is happening the way it is—and then redesign the conditions so better outcomes become easier to achieve.
Grateful for the opportunity, the conversation, and the community.

This panel brings together business owners and leaders to share their real-world experiences with Organization Development (OD) or related work, and its impact on business performance. Rather than focusing on theory, the discussion explores how OD practices directly contribute to business success and improved outcomes.
